Take the S78 and S59 bus to the corner of Hylan Blvd, and Craig Ave. and continue
about 1/8 miles to the park. Make sure that you get on a bus that is going all
the way to Tottenville. This service may not be offered on the weekend.
The other option is the S74 bus. Again make sure the bus is going to
Tottenville. Take this bus line to the last stop. Continue walking on Main St.
towards Hylan Blvd. Once you get to Hylan Blvd, go right and walk to park. This
is about a 1 mile walk.
From the Staten Island Rapid Transit take the train to the Tottenville
Station and follow directions above for the S74 bus line.
Any time of year is good to visit the Conference House. In winter many of the
white-throated sparrow, dark-eyed juncos and raptors can be seen in the woods, and american wigeon, 2 species of
loons, horned grebe, and other waterfowl
can be found in the Raritan Bay.
In the spring the park becomes alive with songs, and sights of migrations. Many
rarities like hooded warbler, and summer tanager are found here each year, so keep your eyes and ears open!
As summer sets in most of the islands woodland, and edge habitat breeds can
be found within the park. Pairs of House Wrens build nests every couple hundred
feet!
Fall migration is just as exciting as spring migration at the Conference House
Park. Although not in their breeding beauty, great diversity of warblers pass
through this park. Conference House Park is perhaps the premier spot in all
of New York City for Connecticut Warblers, visit in the first
or second week of September for this species.
