About:

This facility is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, and is also used by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The best time to visit Ft. Wadsworth is the winter. Waterfowl collect in the sheltered area between the "corner" of the island and the bridge. Always scan through the american wigeon for a possible Eurasian wigeon. Purple sandpipers are sometimes found on the rock jetties. During spring and fall migration warblers and bobolinks can also be found in the field. The woods around the forts are good places to find common resident birds.

Be sure to stop at the Visit Center for more information about the history of the area.
